WAY was assigned the organization of the Scientific Meeting under the title “Modern Cervical Pathology in the Service of 21st Century Women”, held on Sunday, 12 March 2017, at the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music. The Scientific Meeting was held on the occasion of the International Women’s Day and was attended by distinguished Greek scientific experts and a great number of health professionals from the entire country.
Among the prominent participants in the Meeting were Messrs. Evangelos Paraskevaidis, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Department of Medicine of the University of Ioannina, Chairman of the Hellenic Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and Chairman of the HeCPA Study Group (Hellenic Cervical Pathology Academic Study Group), Petros Karakitsos, Professor of Cytology at the Department of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Chairman of the Hellenic Society of Clinical Cytology, and Director of the Diagnostic Cytology Laboratory of “Attikon” University Hospital, Evripidis Bilirakis, Obstetrician-Gynaecologist, Doctor at the University of Ioannina, Secretary of the Hellenic Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, member of the HeCPA Study Group, and head of the colposcopy department of the 1st Clinic of the “Helena Venizelou” General and Maternity Hospital, Ioannis Panagiotidis, Associate Professor of Pathological Anatomy at the Department of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Director of the 2nd Pathological Anatomy Laboratory of “Attikon” University Hospital. Ms. Anna Batistatou, Professor of Pathological Anatomy at the Department of Medicine of the University of Ioannina and Chairwoman of the Hellenic Society for Pathological Anatomy, moderated the Meeting.
Cervical cancer is a serious public health problem both globally and in Greece, given that most countries worldwide do not have organized prevention programmes.
Today, Greek women, too, can benefit from specialized tests which facilitate the customized management of the problem, taking advantage of a great array of modern diagnostic tools, the mRNA test and Liquid Phase Cytology.
